Pierce Brosnan as Remington Steele
Stephanie Zimbalist as Private Detective Laura Holt
Storyline
Mafia Boss Concidine commissions Morris Singer to open and steal the safe of a diamond merchant together with crackerjacks Louis and Frank.
The two safe-crackers manage to open the safe very fast - but then, the three diamond robbers find that the safe was empty. It quickly becomes clear to them that someone has slammed them. Only – how could they ever explain this to Concidine, when he believes that all of his employees want to cheat him.
While the diamond dealer Harrod turns to Laura Holt for an assignment, the crook Singer meanwhile turns to Remington Steele. Harrod was keeping in his safe a diamond that had already been sold to an oil sheik, but which was not insured.
Singers concern is that Remington Steele help him find the real thief, so that the mafia can seek their revenge in other directions and Singer does not have to continue fearing for his life. Both Singer and Harrod ask for complete discretion, so that the two private investigators have no knowledge of the other’s task.
During his investigation, Remington Steele finds out that Morris Singer was deliberately made the scapegoat by the real thief of the gemstone. Singer’s comrades were found murdered in the meantime, so that the situation was onlt becoming worse for Remington and Singer.
In order to distract Concidine, Remington Steele contacts the Mafia boss and explaines that he had robbed the safe of the diamond merchant and offers Concidine the stone sought by all. To his amazement, however, the thug is apparently no longer interested.
