Storyline

The Remington Steele Detective Agency is commissioned to search for Professor Arthur Thicket, who has been missing since he left for the Californian town of Denada. However, after landing in the town, the detectives only stumble upon distractions.

Apparently none of the people they have spoken to are willing to assist them into finding this professor. In a diner Remington and Laura talk, among others, with the local waitress, Rachel, who strongly warns the detectives against investigating the case further.

First of all, the two investigators leave the diner, but try to re-establish contact with Rachel at a later date. However, the locals are causing the detectives much trouble. They shoot at Steele and Holt and push their car off the road, whereby damaging it completely.

The sheriff of Denada initially detains Remington and Laura, but he lets them escape so that they may contact Mildred and inform her about what happened to her car. Mildred sets out immediately to Denada, but is, however, arrested by the sheriff for a traffic offence that she had not committed.

Of course, Remington Steele and Laura Holt cannot stand idly by as their associate is behind bars, and attempt to free Mildred. Surprisingly, they do not only find Mildred Krebs in this prison, but also the missing Arthur Thicket.

Unfortunately, the two detectives do not succeed in freeing both of the prisoners as they are running short on time. Arthur Thicket tells the detectives about his most recent experiences. The professor has found that there was an embezzlement scandal involving millions, in which the whole community was involved.

He was planning to find further evidence that would support his previous results during his stay in the city. He was arrested while performing his research. Since a pack of locals are approaching them, Remington Steele and Laura Holt have no option other than disappearing.

The two detectives start their investigation immediately in order to find evidence supporting the professor’s theory and stumble upon a one year old crime.
