Storyline

Private detectives Remington Steele and Laura Holt remain in Malta for the investigation of Benjamin Carlisle’s death. When an employee of an undertaker steals a corpse, he is mortally wounded in a car accident during his flee.

Remington Steele finds the transom of a Maltese cross made out of metal in the hand of a deceased employee. Remington Steele first takes the crossbar to his hotel in order to talk to Laura about it. Shortly thereafter, however, someone attempts to steal this part of the Maltese cross.

The director of a museum can explain the reason to the two private investigators. In this museum, there is a copy of a cross that was stolen a few weeks ago. The cross itself is enscribed with the original plan of a fabulous treasure.

The thieves who stole the cross from the museum are now after the piece in order to obtain the site plan. Once back at the hotel, the two make the acquaintance of Margaret Cable and Edward Jensen, whereby Jensen tries to approach Mildred.

When Mildred is kidnapped shortly thereafter, the plan is to exchange the missing piece of the Maltese cross for her freedom.
