The travelled, clever lawyer Rex Randolph, portrayed by Richard Long, and former policeman Cal Calhoun, played by Andrew Duggan, run a detective agency for the very complex cases in New Orleans.

They are assisted by their young assistant Kenny Madison, played by Van Williams, and secretary Melody Lee Mercer, portrayed by Arlene Howell.

The gag of the series was actually based on the way Rex and Cal greeted each other, because the two did not shake hands but knocked their shoes sole to sole.

This series was actually an imitation of the series 77 Sunset Strip. The two series differ only in the fact that they were played in different places.

Actor Richard Long continued playing the role of Rex Randolph in the 77 Sunset Strip series after this one was cancelled. Actor Ken Madison ended up in Hawaii, where he played in the series Surfside 6, which was, however, not broadcast in Germany.

In Germany, only 20 of the 39 episodes were broadcast by ZDF. Overall, the series never reached the popularity of other detective series on TV, and certainly not the iconic status of 77 Sunset Strip.
