Martin Kane, Private Eye was probably the first TV series about a detective.



 



The show was sponsored by U.S. Tobacco on radio and television. William Gargan reached enormous popularity through his role as Martin Kane in the TV films and radio shows in the 40’s and 50’s.



 



There were approximately 175 radio shows and 120 thirty-minute TV episodes. Later, actor William Gargan was replaced by the likes of Lloyd Nolan, Lee Tracy and Mark Stevens. The series was directed by Edgar C. Kahn.
