Man against Crime was also known under the name Follow That Man. The famous actor Ralph Bellamy played New York detective Mike Barnett.

The series was sponsored by the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company as a counterpart to the series sponsored by the U.S. Tobacco Martin Kane, Private Eye. Knowing of this sponsorship, it is hardly surprising that Mike Barnett has been shown frequently smoking.

84 episodes were filmed between October 1949 and August 1956. The detective series was written by Vin Bogert and directed by Lawrence Klee.

In 1956, Ralph Bellamy was replaced by Frank Lovejoy, but, a few months later, the series was discontinued.
