Peter Gunn

(USA, 1958 -1961)

Created by Blake Edwards.

Peter Gunn is an American television series aired on NBC and produced by Revue Productions. From 1958 to 1961, the series was broadcast on ABC and the production was taken over by MGM Television. The 114 episodes have been created and written by Blake Edwards.

Peter Gunn, played by Craig Stevens, is a tough, yet elegant and well-mannered, gentleman, helping his clients in trouble by solving criminal cases. His friend, Lieutenant Jacoby of the police, played by Herschel Bernadi, assists him. However, Jacoby often needs to help him out of dangerous situations as well.

He spends most of his time in the jazz bar "Mothers", with whose owner, "Mother", played by Hope Emerson and from season 2 by Minerva Urecal, he maintains a cordial relationship. His girlfriend, Edie Hart, played by Lola Albright, sings cool melodies in the bar.

The series was shown in Germany only 39 years later. Nevertheless, no less than 50 of the original 114 half-hour episodes were broadcast. Colour television has long since existed when it was aired on German television.

Although Americans only knew Peter Gunn as a black and white series, RTL artificially coloured the episodes.
