Richard Diamond, Private Detective is an American crime series broadcast from 1949 to 1953 as a radio play and produced in 1957-1960 as a TV series.



 



157 30 minute long episodes were broadcast on the radio and at the end of many episodes, Richard Diamond sang something for his girlfriend.



 



77 episodes were broadcast on television, each 30 minutes long. The intelligent detective was played by David Janssen. His secretary, called Sam, was shown in all the episodes only from the waist down. Her face was never seen.



 



The role of the secretary was played by Mary Tyler Moore. The first two seasons played in New York, then the third season moved to Los Angeles. There, the detective got a girlfriend named Karen, played by Barbara Bain, and a fancy car with a car phone, which was something quite special at that time.
