Pilot 1: Prescription: Murder

First Broadcast in Germany: 11.10.1969

Peter Falk as Inspector Columbo

Storyline

Although the marriage of psychiatrist Dr. Ray Flemming and his wealthy wife, Carol, does not seem to be the best, the couple is celebrating its tenth wedding anniversary with a lavish party. Carol, who loves her husband, wishes that he would feel the same for her again. Apparently, her hope becomes a reality, because Ray offers his wife a weekend together in Mexico and gives her the tickets. This could be a new beginning for their relationship.

Contrary to the hopes of his wife, Dr. Flemming has, however, planned the death of his wife. It should look as if she had been killed by a burglar. In her execution, the psychiatrist receives help from actress Joan Hudson, his patient and lover. She looks sufficiently similar to his wife to be identified as Mrs. Flemming at the airport. A staged fight between Ray Flemming and "his wife" provides the necessary attention and Dr. Flemming flies alone to Mexico.

Upon his return, Columbo gently breaks the news that his wife was killed in his absence by a burglar and Flemming plays the grieving widower.
