DETECTIVE HONEY WEST

Honey West ist the first female fictional private detective and was created by Gloria and Forest Fickling (aka G.G. Fickling). The private detective successfully investigated in 11 books published between 1957 and 1971.

Honey West was described as similar in nature and approach to a female Mike Hammer and in appearance to Marilyn Monroe. From 1965 - 1967 the series was broadcast on American television and in 1967 in the German television ARD.

Honey West (portrayed by Anne Francis) inherited the Los Angeles detective agency of her late father, a former police officer, including the employee Sam.

Sam is an electronics freak and has a pickup truck with the inscription "H.W. Bolt & Co. TV Service" on the side. The vehicle is equipped with tape recorders, listening devices, radio systems and a periscope.

Honey West is known for her sophisticated gadgetry. These are hidden microphones including eyeglasses, sunglasses, lipstick or tear gas bombs disguised as earrings.

West’s trademark is her fondness for the predatory look. Her judo and karate skills are also worth mentioning. Cats are important to her, so it is not surprising that she owns a pet ocelot named "Bruce".

Remarkable is also the fact that Honey West’s initial clients sometimes turn out to be the actual criminals.

The series was so well received in the US that it soon expanded to merchandise, such as comics, Honey West dolls, games etc.

Despite an interested audience, no more than 13 episodes were broadcast in German television.
