Fake Game

First Broadcast: March 25th 2006

Leonard Lansink as Detective Wilsberg

Storyline

Wilsberg is on his way home when he accidentally becomes involved in a slight accident with a young cyclist. While Wilsberg patches up the young woman, she tells him that she was looking for her child, who was given away for adoption by her parents straight after birth. Wilsberg, overwhelmed by guilt due to the accident, promises to help Franziska.

His investigations lead to the discovery that the Weltenbrink couple are little Lisa’s adoptive parents. When the baby is kidnapped shortly after and a ransom is demanded, the detective learns that Franziska had staged the accident so that Wilsberg,  led by a bad conscience, would help her find her baby free of charge. Since the Weltenbrink couple is convinced that Wilsberg is also involved with the kidnapping, the police shows up in his apartment in order to arrest him and his goddaughter Alex.

It turns out that Wilsberg and Alex have nothing to do with the kidnapping, but that Lisa's father, Sven, and his convicted brother, Matthew, are involved in the matter. The ransom was meant to help them move to Australia in order to begin a new life. The money transfer goes wrong afer both Inspector Anna Springer and her assistant, Overbeck, become involved alongside Wilsberg, against the will of the adoptive parents, but the kidnappers soon get into contact with them again. In the meantime, the ransom demand has risen from 100,000 to 1 million Euro, which would mean a financial crisis for the Weltenbrink couple, despite their blooming construction company.

Moreover, the kidnappers are now demanding that Wilsberg, much to his surprise, conduct the next money transfer. But before it actually comes to the requested transfer, private investigator Wilsberg is knocked down and wakes up next to Matthias, the brother of Lisa's father, who had been shot. Naturally, for Sven, it looks as if Wilsberg has killed his brother.
