Storyline

A detective fanclub organises an event where, for $500, each member, avid amateur detectives, may slip into the role of famous detectives and investigators from around the world, such as Inspector Columbo or Lord Peter Wimsey.

Their mission is to track down Eddie Lucas, the organizer. Quite accidentally, private detectives Remington Steele and Laura Holt participate in this event. At first, the whole thing looks like a harmless pasttime, where members are also disguised as the famous Sherlock Holmes and his friend, Dr. Watson.

However, as a former employee of Eddie Lucas is brutally murdered, the harmlessness is over and done with. The atendees of the event begin their investigations as soon as another murder occurs.

When Winston, who has assumed the role of famous Japanese detective Mr. Moto, is found dead, the remaining amateur detectives realize that it is better to leave the investigation up to the professionals, so Remington Steele and Laura Holt are immediately called upon.

Their investigation leads the private detectives to the realization that organizer Eddie Lucas is collecting information on various individuals and is then using that information to blackmail the person. In this way, Eddie has also blackmailed the banker Fowler, who, however, committed suicide.

Using this newly-found piece of information, Remington Steele tries to blackmail Lucas and therefore arranges a meeting. However, Lucas does not appear at the scheduled time, but a young woman dressed as Miss Marple. It turns out that this woman is the daughter of the banker Fowler.
