Pierce Brosnan as Remington Steele
Stephanie Zimbalist as Private Detective Laura Holt
Storyline
Journalist Molly Donovan has disappeared without a trace since performing research and investigations in regards to an international gang of art smugglers and thieves. Shortly before her disappearance, she has bought a picture by painter Joanne Pitkin as part of her investigation.
Journalist Richard Walker, friend and colleague of the missing person, starts to worry about Molly Donovan and instructs detective Remington Steele to perform an investigation into the matter.
Remington Steele and Laura Holt soon find out that the gallery owner Clifford Conant is apparently the head of the gang specializing in the theft and smuggling of art works. Furthermore, the investigations of the private detective brings to light the fact that Conant is actually Pitkin’s gallery owner.
Clifford Conant has found a way to use Joanne Pitkins pictures to support his illegal business and transport paintings beyond the border. Laura Holt and Remington Steele are convinced that Molly Donovan is held in Conant’s gallery.
However, it is impossible to free her at this point since they are lacking the necessary evidence. The detectives decide to steal some paintings in order to exchange them for the journalist. Unconsciously, however, they only steal copies of the intended paintings, which prove to be of no help, so a second burglary in the gallery becomes necessary.
After stealing the originals, they are determined to finally exchange these paintings for the missing Molly Donovan. But the private investigators have thereby not reckoned with Richard Walker, who gets in their way.
